Adult Bamboo Toothbrush

Regular price €3,99
Tax included.

BENEFITS: Our biodegradable bamboo handle is paired with soft nylon bristles.

HOW TO USE: Rinse and care for your bristles just as you would with a conventional toothbrush. Bamboo is a material that will keep best when stored dry. We recommend keeping your toothbrush upright in an open-air toothbrush holder. See our care and disposal section for tips and tricks on recycling and composting your brush.

WHAT I’M MADE OF: Nylon-6 Bristles (BPA Free) and bamboo.

What invention could you not live without?

Toothbrushes have become an essential part of our daily routines. In fact, the toothbrush trumped cars, computers and mobile phones as the invention respondents couldn’t live without in MIT’s Lemelson Innovation Index survey (2003). It’s no surprise really. Us humans have been obsessed with oral hygiene for centuries.

Why choose a bamboo toothbrush?

A huge downside of plastic toothbrushes is that they can’t be recycled. Most dentists recommend replacing your toothbrush every three or four months. If everyone around the world followed this recommendation, approximately 23 billion toothbrushes head for landfills each year. That’s 300 toothbrushes in a person’s lifetime. Yikes.

Our bamboo toothbrush starts life as Moso Bamboo. Don’t worry we haven’t stolen a panda’s dinner. Moso bamboo is “panda-friendly”, pandas do not eat it or inhabit the area of China where it’s grown. The Moso bamboo that goes into making our brushes is sustainably-grown without the use of fertilisers or pesticides.

With a bamboo brush, you can pluck the bristles out and compost the biodegradable handle.

Is bamboo a good material for a toothbrush?

Bamboo is naturally antibacterial. The handle has been heat treated to prevent the toothbrush going mouldy - you can continue keeping your toothbrush by your sink.

We have paired this natural germ buster with synthetic nylon bristles (BPA free). We are often asked why we use synthetic fibres in favour of a natural-biodegradable material. Unfortunately, the only fully biodegradable bristles are those made from boar, badger or horsehair. These natural bristles aren’t vegan-friendly, are coarse (bad for gums) and a breeding ground for bacteria.

Can I share my toothbrush?

No. Even if you’re on holiday and you’ve forgotten your toothbrush, you should never share personal care items (razors, toothbrushes, nail scissors etc.) that may have been in contact with blood. Bleeding gums due to gingival inflammation poses a potential risk of transmitting bloodborne diseases, such as hepatitis C.
