Our teeth are often forgotten about.

The role of our teeth goes beyond chewing our food. Teeth play a crucial role in our pronunciation.

Try to make an “F” or “V” sound. Have you noticed your upper teeth making contact with your bottom lip? Or what about the “TH” sound. It’s impossible to do without your tongue touching the upper teeth.

To help protect your teeth and prevent against bad breath, daily brushing is vital.

How often should I brush?
You need to brush at least twice a day for two minutes. A twice-daily brushing routine removes plaque, helping to prevent tooth decay and gum disease.

Should I use a Manual or Electric Toothbrush?

It doesn't matter if you use an electric or manual toothbrush in terms of maintaining good dental hygiene. The result is dependent on your brushing technique. All surfaces of the teeth must be brushed (inner, outer and chewing surfaces).

The Oral Health Foundation recommends selecting a small- to medium- brush head with soft to medium nylon bristles. The head of the brush should be able to reach all parts of the mouth.

How should I use my toothbrush?
  • For the outer surface, place the head of your toothbrush against your teeth.

  • Tilt the bristles to a 45-degree angle against your gum line. Make a circular motion with your brush, several times. Do this for all teeth on your upper and lower jaw.

  • On the inside surfaces, reposition your brush vertically and make a circular motion. Repeat several times for each tooth.

  • On the chewing surfaces use a gentle back and forth motion.

  • Don’t forget to clean your tongue!

How long do bamboo  toothbrushes last?
It is important to change your toothbrush every two to three months. When the bristles become splayed, the toothbrush cannot clean your teeth properly and may damage your gums.
